Golden berry (uvilla)

Andean berry in papery husk; superfood for retail and industry.

Uvilla or golden berry (Physalis peruviana) is one of the fastest-growing Andean berries in export. Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, consumed fresh, in confectionery, cereals, dehydrated snacks, and juices. Ecuador produces excellent-caliber uvilla in the inter-Andean highlands. Its papery husk protects the fruit and extends shelf life.

Ideal for

Gourmet retail, premium pulps, desserts, ice cream, functional beverages, and fine dining.

Storage & handling

4–10 °C, individual protection against bruising. Avoid ethylene exposure and direct light.

Preparation

Ripen at room temperature if needed; wash, split, and extract pulp with sanitized tools. Ideal for IQF or immediate fresh use.
